Our Missouri Synod formed the Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) “to finance the acquisition of sites and the building of facilities, which expand programs of ministry, witness, outreach and service of the Lutheran Church.”
This is accomplished through investment options that provide a pool of funds to implement the above programs through lower rate loans, while providing interest income at a competitive rate to the individual investor. As with other similar investments, the rate of return is a variable based on the type of investment and regular commercial trends reflected in the Bank Rate Monitor.
Those eligible to participate include members of, contributors to, or participants in Missouri Synod programs. As an indicator of activity, the total assets of LCEF are almost $1.8 Billion. As of March 31, 2010, there were 126 participants from First Lutheran with over $2.3 Million invested.
